Piano Technicians Guild
Milwaukee Chapter
Our chapter conducts business meetings and technical presentations on the first
Tuesday of the months September through June. They are held at local piano stores
or homes/shops of piano technicians. Visitors are welcome.
We also sponsor 'Associate Days'. These sessions are for the sole benefit of our
Associate members to upgrade their status to Registered Members by preparing
them to pass a series of three exams: written, technical (grand action regulating,
vertical action regulating and a repair section) and tuning. These sessions are open
to all current Milwaukee Chapter members.

Ring job: hot-rodding vertical dampers by Michael
Spalding, RPT
Have you ever come across a vertical piano that
sounds like the bass sustain is down all the time, even
though the dampers have adequate string follow and
adequate spring pressure? What would you do to
remedy it? Come and see what Mike did w/ a piano
he serviced along w/ some other great tidbits:
breaking and repairing an action bracket and
relocating pelican spring for increased damper lift.
